Tshwane University of Technology Leads Collaboration With PURCO SA

The Vice Chancellor of TUT, Prof. Tinyiko Maluleka, expressed delight upon receiving a cheque of R5.2 million from PURCO SA's CEO, Mr. Selvan Govender, during a recent meeting at TUT. In 2023, the Higher Education Sector achieved a total shared services collaboration spend of R2.6 billion, resulting in a consolidated surplus of R73 million from both PURCO SA and PURQ. TUT emerged as the highest contributor to the shared services spend, earning a substantial R5.2 million share of the surplus. The remaining 65 member organizations will receive their portion in the next few months.

Prof. Maluleka commended PURCO SA for its significant contribution to the sector, providing invaluable professional services such as tender management, consultancy, advisory services, supplier and enterprise development, and professional development and training for SCM staff of the membership.

Selvan Govender acknowledged TUT’s contribution and commented “PURCO SA thanks Prof. Maluleka for your leadership especially being the number one contributor to shared services collaboration, earning TUT a sizable portion of the surplus. It's great to see institutions like TUT embracing the collaborative efforts within the higher education sector, ultimately benefiting universities like TUT and its students. This injection of funds into student financial aid and bursaries can make a significant difference in the lives of many students.”

TUT's CFO, Mr. Theo Madurai, also noted that the annual surplus payments from PURCO SA significantly bolster the university's savings and are a welcome addition to funds supporting student financial aid and bursaries.
