UJ appoints new Chancellor - Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka
The University of Johannesburg is a long-standing Member of PURCO SA, a purchasing consortium for Higher Education in Southern Africa. The CEO, Mr Selvan Govender, warmly welcomes and congratulates Dr.Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka on her appointment as UJ’s new Chancellor, and looks forward to her fresh perspectives at UJ and to the Higher Education Sector as a whole.
The New Year started on a high for the University of Johannesburg as they appointed a new Chancellor for the next five-year term. Former United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women as well as Former Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is the new Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg. Her five-year term of office will run from 1 October 2022 until 30 September 2027. Mlambo-Ngcuka will succeed Professor Njabulo Ndebele, whose second five-year term as Chancellor ends 30 September 2022. Details of her inauguration to follow.

The incoming Chancellor Mlambo-Ngcuka holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences at the National University in Lesotho, a qualification in Gender Policy and Planning from the University College London, a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Cape Town and a Doctorate in Engineering from Warwick University awarded in 2013.
