PURCO SA Core Business Segments - Management & Supplier Development

BURSARIES AND INTERNSHIPS
PURCO SA currently funds bursaries for six Supply Chain
students at the Tshwane University of Technology, with
the recipients potentially feeding into the PURCO SA
Internship Programme
It is a structured intervention that prepares selected
supply chain graduates for a career in procurement.
Member institutions are invited to advertise the
Programme to their students, who in turn can apply to
join the Programme.
The six-month internship programme has sparked
the careers of a number of talented individuals and
equipped them with foundational experience and skills
to grow professionally within their specific disciplines.
Selected interns may be offered permanent positions
with PURCO SA on conclusion of their Internship. In the
past year Pozisa Makonco and Lindokuhle Sikhumbana,
who had completed their B.Com Supply Chain
qualifications at the University of Pretoria before joining
the Internship Programme, took up a full-time positions
as procurement Officers at PURCO SA.
Three new interns - Lehlohonolo Moloto, Nthato Moshikare
and Abram Meso - joined the Programme in 2022.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT
During the past year PURCO SA provided financial and
other support for two staff members engaged in studies.
Meshal Moonsamy is scheduled to complete her final
MBA examinations in November 2022, and has been
selected to present a paper on her dissertation at an
international conference later in the year.
Gayla Manganyi is studying through the Chartered
Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).
MEMBER AND SUPPLIER TRAINING
The Consortium facilitates training and development
interventions for Members and Suppliers.
2022 training for Members included a CIPS course
addressing Bid Rigging and Procurement Fraud.

FREE ESD TRAINING
The annual Enterprise and Supplier Development
Programme took place over two days in June 2022.
In order to be considered for participation in the free
programme suppliers must be black owned Exempted
Micro Enterprises (EME) or Qualifying Small Enterprises
(QSE) with a revenue of R10 million or less per annum.
The online programme comprised training covering
Financial Planning; Business Strategy; Marketing and
Sales Planning; and Operational and Systems Planning.
Delegates completed a pre-course Self-Assessment
and the course included a session dedicated to helping
delegates develop a new Action Plan for their businesses.
SOCIAL MEDIA
PURCO SA uses social media as an engagement, news
and networking tool.
PURCO SA has a dedicated Social Media Administrator
with the responsibility to build the Consortium’s
audience and drive engagement through the online
platforms. This has led to an increase in the visibility on
Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, in particular.
In addition to posting all new tenders on the social
media platforms, the channels are also used to create
awareness of consulting projects, new contracts, Ponder
sessions and the Annual Conference

PURCO SA Ponder is a series of free fortnightly virtual
event hosted via Microsoft Teams for PURCO SA
Members and Suppliers. It is designed to deliver ideas,
insights and practical advice on a virtual platform
where our colleagues and partners can network, share
knowledge and extract practical value for themselves
and their institutions and companies.
Ponder was implemented in response to the limitations
on hosting face to face conferencing events, but has
been such a success that it was retained when physical
events resumed in 2022.
Fifteen Ponder events were hosted during the year,
reaching 1413 attendees.
